The Lord Is Not On Trial Here Today is a 2010 Peabody and Emmy award-winning documentary that tells the remarkable story of Vashti McCollum, whose determination to protect her young son from religious instruction in his public school led to one of the most consequential First Amendment cases in United States history. Enduring intense public hostility, legal battles, and personal sacrifice, McCollum challenged a system that blurred the boundary between government and religion. The film traces the dramatic events that culminated in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision establishing the separation of church and state in public schools. Through meticulous research and compelling storytelling, it shows how one courageous woman helped transform American society and continues to influence debates over religion in public schools today.
