Guelph Brunch and Speaker Presentation

Canada’s Constitution: Insights and Impacts on Non-Believers

Join us Sunday, September 14 at 11:00 AM for a delicious brunch and an enlightening talk on what Canada’s Constitution really means for all of us, followed by thoughtful conversation.

Our speaker is Doug Thomas, president and co-founder of Secular Connexion Séculière (SCS), experienced political lobbyist, retired English teacher, and past president of SOFREE, who has studied Canada’s constitution for many years: its documents, its characteristics, and its flaws. A significant part of his degree in Canadian history focused on that constitution and how this foundational framework shapes the rights and freedoms of Canadians. He has continued to work tirelessly within its confines to help protect the rights of atheists, agnostics, humanists, and other non-believers. Doug’s presentation will cover the following key elements:

• How does our constitution work?

• What are its strong points?

• Where does it fall short for Canadians who are not religious?

• How much can be improved without opening the constitution itself?

RSVP needed by SEPTEMBER 13 to: Events@sofree.ca. As this invitation is open to all, we need to know the number of friends in advance to coordinate with staff. Our brunch is in one of the reserved event rooms.

The Symposium Café is at 304 Stone Road West, across the street from Stone Road Mall. There is lots of free parking on-site. Ask for the SOFREE brunch when you come in.
